Iraqi Oil: waiting for a response from the Exxon Mobil deal on Kurdistan

Erbil, November 21 (Rn) – The Iraqi Oil Ministry said on Monday it is awaiting a response from Exxon Mobil to letters sent by the government to the company on a deal signed with the Kurdistan region to explore for oil.

It quoted “Reuters” Iraqi Oil Minister Abdul Karim and coffee as saying that he and Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki, who is currently visiting Tokyo and face letters to Exxon Mobil and awaiting a response. But he did not mention the content of speeches.
The Exxon has signed six agreements to explore for oil and gas with the Kurdistan Regional Government on 18 October / October.

Baghdad says that any oil deals signed with the Kurdistan Regional Government are illegal and have indicated that the agreement by Exxon in the region could threaten its contract to develop West Qurna oil field in southern Iraq.

A delegation from the Kurdistan regional government has held talks with the federal government on outstanding issues, including contracts and oil and gas law, and it appears that the parties did not reach a solution on this file with the emergence of disagreements.

The region has recently rejected a draft law of oil and gas approved by the Iraqi government, said Erbil The draft terms of reference focus, however, the federal government at the expense of the region and the provinces.

Baghdad had been deported in the past as well as companies operating in the Kurdistan Region to participate in the rounds of licenses to develop Iraqi oil fields.

The oil minister said that Iraq is expected to produce 3.4 million barrels of oil per day in 2012.

Iraq expects to export 2.6 million barrels per day in 2012 and produce about three million barrels per day this month and export 2.2 million barrels per day.
