Baghdad, November 17 (Rn) – The Office of the United Nations Mission in Iraq, “UNAMI”, Thursday, for the senior official level in the United Nations Development Programme ended the day visit to Baghdad, where the announced strengthening the presence of the program in Iraq and assured the Iraqi people to renew commitment through enhanced partnership and cooperation.
And the transfer of a press statement of the mission received by the Kurdish news agency (Rn) a copy of the Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations and Regional Director of the Office of Arab States in UNDP Amat Al Aleem Ali Alsoswa saying that “the number of staff working in Iraq has doubled three times and this number climbed to 44 employees Tzm for each individual to improve the lives of Iraqis in partnership with the people and Government of Iraq.
The statement stressed that “Alsoswa visit to Baghdad began with a meeting with Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari, where they discussed several topics, including the financing of joint projects and strengthen the crew attend the United Nations Development Programme in Iraq and the participation of more women in the peace process and reconciliation.”
“We met Alsoswa the highest officials in the Iraqi government as well as representatives from civil society and the private sector and representatives of diplomatic missions accredited in Iraq.”
The statement quoted the Resident Coordinator of the United Nations in Iraq, Christine McNab as saying that “this visit is of great importance, as it gives a boost to the work of UNDP in Iraq, where he worked since 1976 to support Iraq’s efforts in the areas of democratic governance, poverty alleviation and disaster reduction and reconstruction, energy and the environment. “
“The occasion of the passage of 35 years on the work of UNDP in Iraq, WFP will work with the Iraqi government as a partner contribution in support of the President of Iraq’s efforts in combating corruption, and improve basic services and protection of human rights and the provision of sustainable employment opportunities.”
The Director of UNDP in Iraq, Peter Batchelor, the statement said, “This partnership will focus on strengthening democratic governance and the fight against poverty and the empowerment of women and young people and the protection of the environment and support the Iraqi economy.”
The work of the United Nations Development Programme to support the Government and people of Iraq in their march towards reconciliation, peace and stability, and since 1976 in the areas of democratic governance, poverty alleviation and disaster reduction and recovery, energy and the environment in addition to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.
Has contributed to UNDP to strengthen the democratic process, particularly through the national elections. The program has been to work in the areas of anti-corruption and rule of law, justice and human rights and public sector reform and disaster risk reduction, environment and climate change.
And stands at the head of the priorities of the United Nations Development Programme to support Iraq in order to achieve the Millennium Development Goals to ensure a better life for millions of Iraqis.
Committed to the UN Development Program to assist Iraq to achieve these goals in 2015 and specifically in the areas of Alathak primary education, reduce unemployment and access to Khaddkat safe water and sanitation.
