Iraq Minister of Justice to re-draw the amounts missing from the Development Fund for Iraq

Iraqi justice minister, a formal letter to the Chairman of the Committee to Protect Iraq’s assets Rose Nuri Shaways asking to approach the U.S. side to restore what is left, which was monitored by the Inspector General of the amounts subject to the restoration and of (5.27) million dollars. A statement issued by the Office of the Iraqi Justice Minister Hassan al-Shammari, about his meeting with the Inspector General Stuart Bowen, received the “Twilight News” a copy of which had been discussed in the “re-payments development fund,” noting that the two sides discussed the reports issued by Bowen since May 2003, and included in the audit mechanism to spend the amount of (7.20) billion dollars, on the aspects identified by the UN resolutions under the Coalition Provisional Authority led by Paul Bremer and spent during the period of (14) months approximately (4.14) billion dollars. “

The Parliamentary Integrity Committee had confirmed last June, losing $ 17 billion dollars allocated for Iraq Development Fund during the period of the civil administrator Paul Bremer, and described this period as “vague and a lot of corruption,” noting it had sent a request to the United Nations to investigate the matter and refund stolen, as announced by the Cabinet in October last, the formation of a special committee to follow the disappearance of $ 17 billion from the Development Fund for Iraq, stressing that the Commission will collect information regardless of those amounts.

He added the statement, that Shammari raised during the meeting, “a number of questions that would put the initial concept to follow the fate of these funds,” while the feet of the Inspector General Stuart Bowen, the American part, an important clarification of the reports issued on the subject referred to.

It is said that the Development Fund for Iraq, DFI was created in May 2003, by the Director of the Coalition Provisional Authority and after the dissolution of the CPA in June 2004, has been delegated the U.S. government by the Government of Iraq to manage the funds of the Development Fund for Iraq, which were made available for reconstruction projects, and the Ministry of Defence America, the management of the fund in question on behalf of the U.S. government, the mandate has been withdrawn as of December 31, 2007.
