Iraq PM warns rival politicians against seeking interference in Iraqi affairs

BAGHDAD, Jan 1 (KUNA) — Iraq’s Prime Minister Nouri Al-Maliki on Sunday underlined Iraq’s need for political stability, warning rival politicians against seeking foreign interference in Iraqi affairs.

“Iraq needs stability that drives away any outside interference, even if that came from friendly countries,”

Al-Maliki said in a speech on the occasion of the “Eternal Day” festival, celebrating the end of the American military presence.

He called on all Iraqis to unite in the interest of the nation.

“The Iraqi interests should be a priority in everything,” he stressed.

Iraq was engulfed in its worst political crisis in a year after the last US troops left on December 18, when Al-Maliki sought the arrest of Sunni Vice President Tareq Al-Hashemi, threatening a frail coalition government of Sunnis, Shiites and Kurds
