MPs to meet with oil and energy senior officials
BAGHDAD, Feb. 11 (AKnews) – The Acting Oil and Energy Committee at the House of Representatives will meet with Deputy Prime Minister for Energy Affairs Hussein al-Shahrestani and Oil Minister Abdul-Kareem Luaibi on Wednesday to discuss oil production developments.
Member of the Acting Committee Furat Shar’e said the officials are expected to talk about the plans and procedures for increasing oil production and export capacity of the Iraq and the impact of the world economic crises on the Iraqi oil sector.
The committee will also discuss with the officials the measures required to develop a media section for the Oil Ministry and provide media outlets with the necessary information and data they require in order to best serve the oil sector in Iraq.
“The Oil Ministry has to start with establishing a professional media center in oil affairs so as to strengthen transparency in Iraq,” Shar’e said.
He added that the committee recently sent an official letter to Shahrestani where it stressed the need to allow director generals to make statements to the media instead of confining the statements to the press director of the ministry.
