Million barrels per day .. Iraq is going to double oil production from Kirkuk

Oil Ministry spokesman Assem Jihad said on Monday that the Iraqi Oil Ministry demanded the Kurdish authorities on November 2 to allow Baghdad to use the pipeline to export Kirkuk crude, but did not receive a response, according to the agency 'Reuters'.

Jihad added that 'the authorities in the Kurdistan region still does not respond to the demands of the Ministry of Oil to resume theexport of Kirkuk oil through the pipeline region.'

Jihad also stressed that 'the Ministry of Natural Resources in the Kurdistan Regional Government does not cooperate on the subject of restoring necessary equipment taken by engineers in response before leaving the fields'.

Iraq needs at least three months to repair an old pipeline that was transporting Kirkuk crude to the Turkish port of Ceyhan. The main pipeline, which has transported 600,000 barrels per day (bpd) from Kirkuk to Ceyhan, has stopped operating since March 2014 following militant attacks.

Oil Minister Jabbar al-Luaibi visited the Bei Hassan and Avana fields on Monday to issue orders to speed up repairs and resume operations as soon as possible.

It is worth mentioning that the Iraqi government plans to increase the production of 'huge' of oil fields in Kirkuk to one million barrels per day, where the current production does not exceed a quarter of a million barrels,

The exports of the fields of Kirkuk stalled since the federal forces returned to spread in the fields last month, and (October 17), the federal forces entered the fields 'Bay Hassan' and 'Avana' oil north-west of Kirkuk after the withdrawal of Kurdish Peshmerga forces from the region, Security sources.
