The spokesman for the Iraqi government, Saad al-Hadithi, Saturday, that the budget bill for the next year will change the share of the Kurdistan region, commensurate with the population, and to ensure a fair distribution of the wealth of the country.
In a statement to the Russian news agency Sputnik on November 18, 2017, al-Hadithi said that "the proportion of the region willchange in proportion to its population, relative to the population of Iraq, and to ensure a fair distribution of the country's wealth."
Al-Hadithi added that "the next year's budget is in the final review of the Council of Ministers and will be sent to Parliament within days."
He added that "the budget of 2018 is in the process of final review after the end of all discussions around the Council of Ministers, in preparation for sending to the House of Representatives."
The situation between Baghdad and Erbil intensified after the Kurdistan region held a referendum on its independence from Iraq on 25 September last year.
New disputes have arisen between the regional government and the Iraqi government over the latter's intention to reduce the region's share of the state budget for 2018 to 12.6 percent, instead of the 17 percent the region has received since 2005.
