Member of parliamentary finance - Failure to approve the budget will give justification to postpone the elections

MP Hossam al-Aqabi said on Thursday that the lack of voting on the budget could provide a justification for postponing the elections, while he called on the government to speed up the holding of extraordinary sessions with his committee to amend some paragraphs of the budget.

Al-Aqabi said in an interview that "there are specific allocations forthe Electoral Commission in the general budget of the country to cover the financial expenses of the electoral process," pointing out that "not include those allocations in the budget of 2018."

"The draft budget did not address the financial allocations of the Electoral Commission," he said, noting that "in the absence of voting on the budget of 2018, it will give justification to postpone the elections scheduled for 12 May next year on the pretext of non-coverage Expenditures necessary to conduct the electoral process ".

He renewed his call for "the government to expedite the convening of extraordinary meetings with the Finance Committee of the Parliament to amend some paragraphs of the budget," stressing "the need to discuss the interventions and objections of the political blocs, specifically with regard to the reconstruction of liberated cities and the return of displaced persons to their homes.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives Salim al-Jubouri, Tuesday (5 December 2017) that the proportion of deficit in the financial budget for 2018, "very large," noting that this does not mean that there are no outlets to "overcome the difficulties."
