The Pentagon did not endorse the declaration of Abbadi achieved a final victory on a preacher in Iraq

Baghdad News -

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The Pentagon has congratulated the Iraqi forces for their "significant progress" against a vocal organization, but has not endorsed the Iraqi prime minister's announcement of a final victory against the terrorist organization there, the Washington-Oxmanner daily reported.

The newspaper said that 'the overall threat to the organization of a fading has faded and the organizationis no longer able to retain large land in Iraq', pointing out that 'combat operations continue, including fierce fighting against pockets of fighters of the organization'.

The Pentagon estimates that the organization still has about 3,000 terrorists, most of them in Syria, but 1,000 of them remain inside Iraqi territory.

"The Pentagon's failure to endorse the announcement of Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abbadi comes amid doubts about the complete victory." While Abbadi declared the end of the war against a militant organization, Iraqi forces were facing "heavy resistance" from al-Hawija fighters in Hawija. "There are still a lot of unfinished business," Colonel Rob Manning, a Pentagon spokesman, was quoted as saying, adding that the Daash organization remained a threat and that Iraq needed to carry out clean-ups to ensure that the organization had no chance of re-emergence.
