The US Central Command said on Friday that all personnel on board a military helicopter were killed after it crashed in western Iraq.
The command did not give the death toll in the incident, which occurred late on Thursday.
A US military official said the helicopter, a Biff Hawk H-60, was carrying seven people.
The incident was apparently not the resultof hostile activity and was under investigation, the command said in a statement.
Brigadier-General Jonathan B., "This tragedy reminds us of the dangers our men and women face daily in the service of their homelands."
The US military said another US helicopter escort had immediately notified the Iraqi security forces of the incident, while Coalition members secured the area.
Two US officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, quoted preliminary reports that the plane crashed on Thursday near Qaim, Anbar province, close to the Syrian border.
The United States says it has about 5,200 troops in Iraq in an alliance fighting a chorus.
