The leader of the Sadrist movement, Muqtada al - Sadr, three proposals to resolve the water crisis in Iraq.
Al-Sadr said in a tweet on his personal account on Twitter that he said: I propose the following to resolve the water crisis:
1 - an invitation by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or the relevant ministries to the meeting [basin countries] as soon as possible to discuss the water crisis.
2 - Accelerate the meeting of Iraqi ministries competent in this crisis to develop effective solutions to them, to emerge from a permanent committee competent to know the reasons and develop solutions to water security.
3 - Allocation of funds by the Iraqi government to the competent ministries in general and the Ministry of Water Resources, especially to address the water crisis.
Iraq is experiencing a severe drought, especially with a significant drop in the Tigris River as Turkey started filling the Elso dam on the river last Saturday, threatening the loss of a hundred large and the drought of about 7 million acres in Iraq.
Water resources minister in Iraq, Hassan al-Janabi, announced last Sunday that the amount of water storage in Iraq is 17 billion cubic meters and can secure 50 percent of the summer agricultural plan and drinking water.
The Turkish president commented on the crisis and said that the decision to fill the dam "is never irreversible and Iraq must respect our opinion and the interest of our people."
