(Baghdad: Al-Furat News) Prime Minister Adel Abdul-Mahdi received today a telephone call from US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.
A statement issued by the Prime Minister's Office received a copy of the news agency, "Euphrates News" that "during the contactdiscussed the strengthening of relations between the two countries and exchange views on developments in the region against the background of the crisis between the United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran."
Pompeo praised "Iraq's position, its growing role and its diverse relations in its Arab and regional environment and its efforts to maintain security and stability and avoid escalation, as well as the continued cooperation between the two countries against terrorism."
The Prime Minister stressed "the importance of developing bilateral relations and continuing cooperation in all fields, foremost of which is economic cooperation and tackling it."
He also expressed "Iraq's position on the current crisis and its efforts to achieve calm and protect the interests of the peoples and countries of the region." He also referred to "the recent meetings and consultations in Baghdad on this issue, which is of great importance and affects the security and interests of the countries of the region, Europe and the world."
