The former Iraqi Foreign Minister, Hoshyar Zebari, saw on Tuesday 31-12-2019 that what happened today to the American embassy in the Green Zone in the center of the capital is a "stain", he said.
"As a former foreign minister in Iraq, I feel that what is happening today against the American embassy in Baghdad is (a stigma), complete to Iraq as a sovereign state and its independent government," Zebari said in a tweet on his personal account on Twitter.
"All diplomatic facilities must be protected and respected," he added.
Earlier today, the US State Department confirmed that the President of the Republic, Barham Salih, and the Prime Minister of the caretaker government, Adel Abdul Mahdi, affirmed the guarantee of protecting the American mission in Iraq, during a telephone conversation with Minister Mike Pompeo.
The State Department stated, in a statement, that "the President of the Republic of Iraq, Barham Salih, and Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi, confirmed to Mike Pompeo the guarantee of protecting the American mission."
Abdel-Mahdi called, earlier today, Tuesday, protesters in front of the US embassy to leave immediately, and to stay away from foreign embassies and representations.
Abdul-Mahdi said, in a statement received (Baghdad today), that "the American strike on our military units on December 29, 2019 was condemned by the government at the highest levels and the government took a series of measures and measures to address the situation in a way that secures the sovereignty of Iraq and the security of its citizens."
He added, "The solemn ceremony for the funeral of the martyrs is part of the fulfillment of their precious and beautiful blood, but away from contact with the embassy buildings that are responsible for protecting and securing them for the Iraqi government."
And Abdul-Mahdi called on "everyone to leave immediately away from these places," noting that "any aggression or harassment of foreign embassies and representations is an act that will prevent him strictly from the security forces and the law will punish him with the most severe penalties."
The demonstrators, supporters of the Hezbollah Brigades in Iraq, today, Tuesday morning, raised the flags of the brigades on the walls of the American embassy in the Green Zone in central Baghdad, in protest against the American bombing of a popular crowd in Qaim, Anbar Governorate, while threatening to storm the embassy if it continues to bomb Popular crowd sites.
And participated in the demonstrations condemning the American bombing, in front of the US embassy, the Secretary-General of Asaib Ahl al-Haq, Qais Khazali, the Secretary-General of the Badr Organization, Hadi al-Amiri, and the head of the Popular Mobilization Organization, Faleh al-Fayyad, his deputy Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, and the Deputy Secretary-General for Saraya al-Khorasani, Hamid al-Jaza’iri, while Hasan Salem, a member of Parliament, raised the representatives of the Popular Mobilization and the Hezbollah Brigades on the embassy’s external fence.
