The Labor and Social Affairs Committee confirmed, on Friday, the insurance of the salaries of employees and retirees until the end of the current year, while noting that their salaries exceed 50 trillion dinars annually.
Committee member Fadel Al-Fatlawi said in a press statement, "There are more than four million employees in the Iraqi state," noting that "there are more than three million retirees and beneficiaries of social welfare."
He added that "the government secured the salaries of 8 million employees, retirees and social welfare until the end of this year," noting that "their salaries have become in excess of 50 trillion dinars annually, including the recent appointments."
Iraq faces a serious challenge in securing the salaries of its employees after the price of a barrel of oil in world markets fell to less than $ 30, while Parliament approved the price of a barrel of oil at $ 56 for the 2020 budget. One billion dollars, and the state will be unable to secure employee salaries, according to observers.
And revealed the Parliamentary Finance Committee, a few days ago, a government proposal to reduce the allocations of the three presidencies and special grades, while pointing out that this reduction will contribute to the disbursement of employee salaries.
