a member of the State of Law coalition, Representative Kati al-Rikabi, revealed on Sunday (3 May 2020) the fact that there are preparations to take over the leader of the coalition, Nuri al-Maliki, a high position in the state.
A member of the State of Law Coalition, Khalid al-Saray, said in a press statement that "al-Maliki will return to leadershipin Iraq," without clarifying whether he will receive a new position or not.
Al-Rikabi said in an interview with (Baghdad Today), "The leader of the coalition of state law, Nuri al-Maliki, has confirmed through many meetings that he does not want to take any position in the state now," noting that "the talk about the existence of preparations for his assumption of a high position in the state is inaccurate."
Al-Rikabi added regarding the file of forming the new government that "the position of the State of Law coalition is clear from the formation of the government of Mustafa Al-Kazemi, that he will not participate in it and will not vote on the cabinet cabinet, and this is an official decision of the coalition."
The State of Law coalition, led by Nuri al-Maliki, announced, earlier today, Sunday, not to vote for the government of Prime Minister-designate, Mustafa al-Kazemi, while revealing the reason.
The coalition said in a statement, that "he made great efforts with the rest of the political blocs to form the new government, in order to address the major challenges facing Iraq in the economic, security and health fields."
He added: "During the negotiations, mechanisms were agreed upon to choose the candidates for the new government, provided that the Prime Minister-designate deals with all political blocs according to one approach."
However, "the path of forming the government began to take a different course from what was agreed upon, which called us to make additional efforts to correct options and nominate candidates with competence, integrity and leadership capabilities from sincere energies in Iraqi society."
And Abizaid: "And with great regret, our sincere efforts did not culminate in correcting this path, so the government formation presented by the designate to the political blocs contradicted the aspirations of the Iraqi people, as it includes a number of controversial candidates who did not meet the required specifications of competence, integrity and acceptability."
He continued: "On this basis, the coalition of state law declares that he did not participate in the formation of this government and did not vote for it in the House of Representatives, and leaves the option to the rest of the members of the Council to take the appropriate decision regarding it."
Yesterday, Saturday, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Muhammad Al-Halbousi, directed the members of the Council to be in Baghdad on Monday, in preparation for holding a session of granting confidence to the government of the Prime Minister-designate, Mustafa Al-Kazemi.
The media office of the Speaker of the House of Representatives said in a statement that "in preparation for a session to give confidence to the new government during this week, President of Parliament, Mohamed Al-Halbousi, instructed the presence of deputies in Baghdad next Monday."
And Abizaid: "A trip from Erbil and Sulaymaniyah airports and the Basra airport flight to transfer deputies to Baghdad will be prepared next Monday, and the date of the session will be announced later."
