Washington has repeatedly extended the waiver that allows Baghdad to use the necessary Iranian energy supplies for its electricity grid for 90 or 120 days. But it extended the waiver last month for only 30 days while Baghdad was having trouble forming a new government.
The American exemption allowed Iraq to continue importing about 1,400 megawatts of electricity and 28 million cubic meters (988 million cubic feet) of gas from Iran.
