The Parliamentary Finance Committee confirmed that the budget for the current year 2020 will be "austerity and free from job grades" due to the financial crisis described by "suffocation".
Committee member Haneen Al-Qaddou said in a press statement that "the priorities of the 2020 budget will focus on securing the salaries of employees and retirees and financing the ration card and basic expenses, revealing proposals to reduce the allocations of special grades by 75%."
Al-Qudo suggested that "the sending of the 2020 budget to parliament by the government before the upcoming Eid Al-Fitr holiday," noting that "Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi will start forming a committee of economic experts and members of the Finance Committee to amend the budget items to suit the current conditions."
The delay in sending the federal budget by the government to parliament was the result of the continuous protests since last October, which led to the resignation of the government headed by Adel Abdel-Mahdi and its transformation into a caretaker government that is not within its powers to send the draft budget budget to parliament.
The current year’s budget (according to the government’s proposed project) is 162 trillion dinars (135 billion dollars), with a planned financial deficit of 48 trillion dinars (40 billion dollars), including three trillion dinars (2.5 billion dollars) to implement the projects agreed with China.
