The Parliamentary Energy Committee has put forward an "urgent plan" to increase the hours of electricity supply, in which the exhausts coming from the current gas stations are relied upon to run the steam turbines without using fuel.
Committee member MP Sadiq Al-Sulaiti said: "The simplest solution to the electricity problem is to put in place an urgent plan to add combined cycles to all gas stations in the country, which are estimated at more than nine thousand megawatts, and it is possible to add units of about four thousand to five thousand megawatts, quickly and quickly."
He added that "this step will achieve a speedy completion of work, as it is done through the addition of existing gas stations, as opposed to proceeding with new projects," noting that "it will also contribute to reducing environmental pollution and production costs."
Al-Sulaiti pointed out that "the money allocated to the investors has exhausted the investment and operational budget of the Ministry of Electricity, calling for the inclusion of important projects in the current year’s budget or the implementation of the loan program for the purpose of accelerating its introduction early next summer and preparing for an increase in electrical operating hours."
