{Baghdad: Where News} The representative of the Parliamentary Legal Committee, Yahya Al-Muhammadi, revealed an agreement "to a large extent" between the political forces regarding the dispute over electoral districts in the Parliamentary Elections Law.
"The date for early elections is next June 6, but with my conviction, the elections cannot be held on this date, and in the best case it will be at the end of the year 2021, and it may be postponed in the event of any circumstance that calls for postponing it," Al-Muhammadi said.
The committee held a meeting chaired by Rep. Rebwar Hadi, Chairman of the Committee, and its members attended today, Sunday, to discuss the mechanism for distributing electoral districts.
The meeting, which was held at the committee’s headquarters, in the presence of a number of representatives of different parliamentary committees, discussed the mechanism of distributing electoral districts and the number of districts in each governorate.
The committee listened to "the opinions and proposals of the deputies, stressing the need to continue discussions on the issue until a final formula comes out that meets the aspiration of the Iraqi street."
In a related development, the committee decided to address the parliamentary blocs for the purpose of holding an expanded meeting on Monday to listen to their proposals regarding the distribution of electoral districts.
