PM Maliki: 615 Baathists arrested

BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq: Premier Nouri al-Maliki declared today that 615 Baathists were arrested on charges of threatening the security of the state, pointing out that most of them are from the middle and south Iraq.

In a Iraqiya TV station interview, to be broadcasted later, he said that the arrests were based on evidences and information. He added “we should differentiate between the Baathists working with the political process and those against it”.

During a week time, a series of attempts campaigns were conducted in Baghdad and other Iraqi provinces against leading Baathist member and ex-military officers for organizing party meetings aiming at disrupting the security of the country.
