Iraq parliament postpones vote on legal committee resolution

Iraqi parliament voted by majority, on Thursday, to postpone voting over the legal committee’s resolution regarding US withdrawal from Iraq till after hosting Iraqi Armed Forces General Commander Nuri Al Maliki.

“Iraqi parliament voted during its third session of the second legislative quarter in the second legislative year presided by Parliament Speaker Osama Al Nujaifi, and in the presence of 236 MPs, to postpone voting over the legal committee’s resolution regarding US withdrawal from Iraq,” Iraqi MP Mohamed Al Khalidi told Alsumarianews. “The voting would be carried out after hosting Iraqi Armed Forces General Commander Nuri Al Maliki,” he explained.
“142 MPs out of the present 236 voted for the postponement,” Khalidi revealed noting that “Sader movement for its part abstained from voting.”

Iraqi parliament agreed, in its first session of the second quarter in the second legislative year that was convened on November 20, upon the proposal of parliament speaker Nujaifi to host Prime Minister Nuri Al Maliki and security leaders after Maliki’s return from Japan which he took off to on November 19.
